Forget Backlink Indexers: Here’s How to Make Sure Your Links Get Indexed the Right Way

Imagine a world where you only had to build backlinks while search engines did the rest.

After a few days, you’d notice an increase in traffic and much higher rankings.

You’d then sit back, pull out a cold beverage and tune into your favorite web series.

Nothing feels better than hitting your SEO goals ahead of time!

But now that we’re done daydreaming, it’s time to snap back to reality.

The truth is, link building alone is never enough to succeed in SEO.

There’s still a ton of other stuff that must be done before you can reap the benefits of your efforts.

For one, you need to make sure your backlinks actually get indexed.

Remember, just because a backlink goes live, doesn’t mean it’s automatically picked up by search engines.

Crawlers still need time to discover the content, follow its links and create new entries for the search index.

And getting your backlinks indexed?

It’s harder than it sounds.

The Trick to Indexing Backlinks

Unfortunately, the trick to indexing backlinks is that there is no trick.

There’s no way to force indexation—you simply have to wait for search engines to crawl your new links.

Granted, the more popular the referring domain, the quicker and easier it is for links to get indexed. There are also several strategies that can speed up the indexation process, from building content to submitting the link manually to Google.

But, I must stress: Nothing will make your links get indexed instantly.

Using tools that promise backlink indexing is a questionable strategy, primarily because it’s not supported by Google.

Plus, Google hates anything forced or unnatural (especially when it’s related to your links).

The only guaranteed safe way to index your backlinks is to just let search engine crawlers do their thing.

At a minimum, it usually takes around 1-2 weeks before new links get crawled.

After that, the trick to making sure your backlinks get indexed is beautifully simple: Track them, and track the process.

Luckily, keeping track of the status of your backlinks is part of what Monitor Backlinks does really well. Get your hands on a free 30-day trial here to check and track the status of your own backlinks!

All you have to do is link your domain or upload the URL itself, open the “Your Links” tab and look under the “Status” column.

You can see straight away if the link is indexed by Google or not, with a green G to indicate that it is:

Adding the Backlinks You Want to Monitor

Sometimes you might build a new link that you want to track and may not be able to find it in your list of backlinks.

It takes a little time for new links to be automatically added to your Monitor Backlinks account, but if you simply can’t wait, you can manually add links with just a couple of steps.

Here are some of the ways to do it:

Method #1: Add the Links

To add individual links to your Monitor Backlinks account, go to the “Your Links” tab and click “Add links manually.”

On the pop-up window, you can enter the specific details of your backlink, like the source address and the target URL.

In the “Linking page(s)” field, enter the exact URL of the page where the backlink is located. You only need to enter the root domain address in the “Link to” field.

You can also add “Tags” in case you have a pretty cluttered backlinks analysis page. This is only useful for filtering purposes and won’t affect the backlink’s indexation in any way.

Other details you can include are the link’s anchor text and some notes.

After you click “Add Links,” give the tool some time to gather enough data on your new link. When done, the link should now appear in your backlink analysis page along with its real-time indexation status and metric scores.

Method #2: Import Links from File

Monitor Backlinks also allows you to import backlink data straight from an external source. If the external source lets you export backlinks in .csv or .txt form, you can import them via the “Import links via file upload” button.

In its current version, Monitor Backlinks natively supports CSV or TXT documents from Moz, Google Search Console, Majestic and Ahrefs. Simply upload the file through the “Import Links from File” page and the file structure will be detected automatically.

For this, click “Click to browse for the .csv or .txt file” and locate the CSV or TXT document you’ve exported from another platform.

The options below allow you to implement specific rules for your import. You can limit the number of backlinks from the same domain, apply tags or filter out inactive links.

Once you click “Import Backlinks,” you should be able to view the backlinks on your Monitor Backlinks account.

How to Support the Indexation Process While You Wait

So, you’ve added the backlinks you’d like to monitor for indexation—now what?

Adding the backlinks to Monitor Backlinks can help you keep a close eye on the natural indexation process as it occurs.

While you wait, there are several things you can do to help speed things up:

Prioritize Your Most Important Links

The Monitor Backlinks dashboard allows you to thoroughly assess the value of individual links. This can help you determine which backlinks to prioritize and reinforce.

For example, if one backlink you’re trying to get indexed comes from a popular site with high Domain Authority, consider building tier two links. These are links that point to the referring page rather than your own content.

If the referring domain is popular enough, it’s only a matter of time before your backlink gets acknowledged by search engines.

Check Backlinks for Warnings

If a backlink remains unindexed for a prolonged period of time, it could be due to a low-quality signal.

Monitor Backlinks highlights these issues with warnings, which can be found in the left-most column of the “Your Links” page.

A common issue would be an unindexed source, which shouldn’t be a problem if you track links you built yourself.

However, you need to watch out for broken links or deleted pages.

These are most likely mistakes by the referring domain’s owner, blog manager or whoever’s in charge of their content. In which case, a simple reminder via email will often do the trick.

Monitor for Backlink Status Changes

Finally, remember that a backlink’s indexation status is never permanent. Certain issues may arise that could affect the referring domain and, consequently, your backlink.

With Monitor Backlinks, you can keep a watchful eye on your backlink profile and react accordingly to anything that can destabilize it.

You can also use the presented data to fine-tune your link building strategy over time.

Whatever you do, never sit idly by and be complacent with your results.

SEO is an ever-changing landscape that requires your presence of mind. Don’t take anything for granted and be prepared to adjust whenever necessary.

Ensuring link indexation may sound tedious, but sometimes you have no choice but to put in the extra work.

After all, this will help you secure the rankings and traffic you truly deserve.

Follow the tips above to monitor your progress and remember that, in SEO, a little patience goes a long way.
