Check competitors social media traffic
Before I go into details, let me tell you that this trick works only if your competitors are using shorten URL’s from Bit.ly. Without further ado, I will show you how I can spy the traffic for one of my favorite pages on Facebook, called I fucking Love science.
After you have found a competitor that’s using the Bit.ly system, click on the link shared within a post. I will choose to analyze, a post with 82.000 likes and 12.730 shares.
Click on the bit.ly link, and copy the URL.
Now, go to BitLy.com and create an account if you haven’t done this yet. Login to your account, and paste your URL.
A window will pop-up, with some very quick statistics. Click on “View stats”.
On the next page, you will see the number of total clicks on that link. In my case, my link was clicked 47.937 times. To check even more details, click on “See stats for all bitly links”.
Here you can see the days when the link was clicked the most.
And the social networks where the link has gotten the most interactions, along with the demographic distribution of clicks.
And there you have it. That’s how you can spy your competitors social media traffic. Now do the same for other posts, and determine what articles or posts get the most interactions.
